Hyrox just told the internet: our results are not free.

Running gave its results data away for decades. Hyrox is taking the other path, and brands should pay attention.

The facts

  • On Oct 15, the5krunner reported that Hyrox sent cease-and-desist letters to at least eight results and analytics sites and apps. RoxOpt and HyCoach confirmed they got one.
  • The letters give seven days to stop scraping and delete all Hyrox data. That includes derived datasets and AI embeddings. Hyrox cites German database rights, GDPR and trademark law.
  • Hyrox says it is "currently not in a position to grant a commercial licence" for the data.
  • The size of what's at stake: one site, RoxTimes, says it holds 1,247,306 results from 208 races.
  • On Oct 19, Coty's Boss Parfums signed a multi-year Hyrox deal across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland, Spain, the Nordics, Benelux and Poland. Terms were not disclosed. Coty said the deal gives it a direct way to reach younger audiences.
  • Hyrox expects more than 2 million participants in the 2026/27 season and has over 15,000 affiliated training clubs.
  • Context: in September the founders regained majority control with L Catterton and WndrCo; Infront confirmed the sale closed on Sept 8. Bloomberg reported a value near $700 million.
  • Same week, Oct 15: Strava launched guided strength workouts for subscribers. It says strength passed 500 million uploads in 2025.

Our take

Anyone who has refreshed a results page at the finish line knows those splits feel like yours. Nobody ever asked who owns them. That question just got a price on it.

  1. Results data becomes a product. You don't send legal letters over data you plan to give away. We expect Hyrox to launch its own premium results and analytics, or license the data to one partner. Race owners in running should watch. Most marathons let timing companies post results and let anyone scrape them. That is revenue left on the table.
  2. Non-endemic money is following the age curve. A fragrance brand buying in to reach younger people is the tell. Big running races have long sold title rights to banks, insurers and tech firms. The brands chasing under-35s now have another place to go, and a busy one.
  3. The hybrid athlete is the next data fight. Strava is pushing into strength. Hyrox is locking its results. Within a year we expect an official Hyrox data deal with a wearable or training app. The brand that gets it owns the post-race moment for millions of people.
Your turn

If you run a race or an event series, who owns your results data today? Could you charge for it?
